Forbes lists who are the highest earning women in music for the past year

November 21, 2017

Forbes has compiled their list of the highest earning women in music from the period of June 2016 to June 2017. The calculations were made from pretax income during that period and does not factor out in the fees that are taken out to pay agents, managers, lawyers and anyone else that might be on their payroll.

Who was the highest earner? It was Beyonce with $ 105 million USD due to the Formation tour.
Where does Grammy album of the year winner Adele rank? She’s at number 2 at $ 69 million USD.
Where does that put Taylor Swift? She ranks at 3 with $ 44 million USD. Next year, she will probably be higher due to raking in more money from reputation and the subsequent tour for it.
Those that have residency shows in Las Vegas round out the top 5 earners within the past year Celine Dion and J.Lo.
Honorable mentions to Dolly Parton and Barbra Streisand who also make the top 10 list due to their tours.

Natalie Portman talks about harassment and sexism

November 20, 2017

– She says she’s never been assaulted but has faced discrimination and harassment, she realizes this upon reflection since those are things often considered just part of the process.
– She was 11 years old when she was cast in “Léon: The Professional”, after that she was called “Lolita” and similar stuff in reviews and that scared her so, for a while, she didn’t want to do any kissing and sexual scenes.
– She considers the lack of women on set is a big issue since it isolates women and prevents them from sharing stories and mentorship.
– A producer invited her to fly with him in his private plane, but when she was aboard there was only one bed. She was unharmed but scared.
– A male director yelled at her and called her “exhausting” for expressing her opinions. A male actor stood up for her and pointed out that she was just talking like he had done, yet they listened to him.

Meryl Streep Once Chased Away an Abusive Man with Cher

November 20, 2017

Speaking at the annual ceremony for the Comitte to Protect Journalists, Meryl Streep shared the following anecdote: “I learned something about life that I wouldn’t have known otherwise and I was lucky because my instincts served me well. In one instance, I played dead and waited until the blows stopped — watching like people say you do from about 50 feet above from where I was beaten. And in the second instance, someone else was being abused and I just went completely nuts and went after this man. Ask Cher — she was there. And the thug ran away, it was a miracle.”

Matthew Weiner on sexual harassment allegations: “It’s great that we’re having this conversation.”

November 20, 2017

Weiner’s statement:
“The allegation is not true.
[…]
For like 92 hours of the show, we wanted people to be having this conversation. It’s great that we’re having it. It’s a very serious issue. It’s great that we’re having this conversation.
[…]
I don’t want to speak to someone else’s character, but I will say this: I have hired dozens of women over the years and dozens of people. I am a demanding boss. Especially in the early years, it was very hard to do it. I had a lot of stress and – you know this – it’s very lonely. When I think back on it, if I had to do it differently, letting people go and being mad about having to rewrite everything – I was just angry a lot of the time.
[…]
The person I am now would definitely do it in a different way. [He wants to thank those he’s worked with over the years for their support.]” (Gee, guess now we have confirmation on why the cast/crew of Mad Men has been so deathly silent.) “They know how important this is to me and they know the kind of person I am.”

Weiner’s statement comes on the heels of Mad Men’s consulting producer Marti Noxon supporting Kater Gordon’s allegations, as well as calling him an “emotional terrorist”.
